6 advices to write a letter of introduction

The letter of introduction is used for attract attention, show the differences from the other candidates and, ultimately, get an interview.

That’s the reason why, we have to take into account some aspects when we want to write them:

1.       A letter of introduction has to awaken interest

The letter of introduction can be adapted and personalized in every specific case, because it is the first impression they have about us and with a good letter, you can attract attention and give the impression that you’re the appropriate person for the post.

Instead, a letter of introduce too standard and too general, it doesn’t help you to highlight your candidacy.

You have to distance yourself of the other candidates since the first paragraph.

If you are replying an advertisement, you should begin the letter explaining which is what attracts you to take a vacant.

Instead, if it is a spontaneous application, show them that you know well the business, without defending an idea or a principle.

It’s also important that you’ll get some information previously and you have in consideration what has caught your attention and what made you decant into this business and not to another.

2.       Techniques you can use to adjust your letters

  • Emphasize the most important dates of your CV.
  • Use the letter to introduce to include additional information.
  • Don’t specify in what you “DON’T” have experience or academic formation.
  • Don’t specify aspects related to the labour supply.
  • Use a straight and simple language.
  • Express you with security, simplicity and modesty and always use affirmative sentences.
  • The letter must be unique within the labour supply.
  • You mustn’t explain the reasons why you ask for a workplace in the business, if you think they can harm you.
  • Don’t compare the business with the others which you worked before.
  • Don’t mention that you want to change your workplace because “you didn’t be comfortable” or that’s why “you couldn’t develop professionally” in the previous companies.

3.       Speak about your future project

In the letter, you ought to describe in detail what you’re planning to do in your future, in which kinds of workplace aspire to and which is your professional project.

If you don’t have cleared your future, you should opt to explain which tasks you control well. Further, if you don’t indicate any workplace, it’s interesting to signal an occupational guidance in the company (like trading, administrative, human resources, production…).

 4.       Always put yourself in the place of the selector

On second paragraph of a letter, you might exalt all the qualities of the workplace which you want to take up, as the principal function of a letter is answering the expectative of the selector.

Therefore, you must try to put yourself in his place and ask yourself which are the competencies and skills needed in the workplace.

You don’t limit to resume the CV. It’s better if you explain another successful professional experience or an academic training that is relevant to the job requested.

5.       Review the letter of introduction

Read the letter as many times as you need and review the spelling, the syntax and cohesion, if you don’t want to get bad impression of the selector.

Don’t use sentences or paragraphs convoluted and difficult to understand. It is better to use short sentences and simple, separated by dots.

Discard empty phrases and meaningless and don’t abuse with words like “personal” to begin sentences, if you don’t want to seem too self-centered.

If a bid is spontaneous, it is convenient to specify it in the subject.

In addition, you show treated him/her as equals with the selector and you should fit it on one side of a page and also you might space all the paragraphs with full stops for an easy reading and understanding.

You should write the letter on a computer; unless the advertisement indicates that it should be written by hand.

If however, you want the send the letter by email, it must be even shorter so that the letter and curriculum can go on the same page. But if you prefer to send it in two files separately, it is better use the classic mail.

6.       Ask the selector to make an interview

The finally objective of the letter is getting an interview. So you shall some sentence like this: “Thanking you henceforth for your interest about my candidacy, I remain at your disposal for a possible meeting… “.

Don’t hesitate to show to the selector that you will ring him after a few days to discuss about the candidature. They will see that you are a resolute and determined person.

Finally, end the letter like this: “In the hope of a favourable response, yours sincerely”, and signed it.
