Reflection before to start

The video-CV allows presenting aspects that with a written format are not possible. So, before you start, you can think about what you want to explain and think that a bad exposition can harm you. We suggest making a presentation that doesn’t last more than 90 seconds (at the video can last 2 minutes). It’s also important that you show sincerity, naturalness and confidence and try to reformulate those aspects that could go against us.

Focus your message to your addressee

Focus your message to a particular group can be better understood by those who are a part of your goal. However, take into account that a simple message will reach a wider audience.

It is not always necessary

It is not necessary to make a video-CV, but some people can earn points showing his image and his way of expressing themselves. However, others, they can harm themselves.

Summarise

If you know to whom you’re going to address the video-CV, you could personlize it.. Take into account that there isn’t a way to put a lot of information of your CV or make a list of your previous jobs. It’s the first impression they get about you. So we must demonstrate a friendly and natural expression to break the ice, but we can’t do references in time because we don’t know when they would see us.

The experience

It’s the section that more time we should spend. When we have to recounting our experience, we usually follow a chronological order to the present, but you can play with that order to stand out the work experiences or to group some that are similar and it is important to express what we have learned in every experience.

Summary

Summarizing what we present, we reaffirm ourselves to the person who is looking at us that we are the right candidate. Here we must take advantage and show the aspects we don’t outlined previously. An appreciation for the interest shown in our candidate, it would be the best conclusion.

The recording place

It should be as quiet as possible and adequate to not cause acoustic echo. Take care of lighting (better if it is natural) and try to get it from all sides to avoid shadows. Also, be careful that no glare and reflections spoil us the result. It is preferable to choose a neutral background of soft colours and use a closed shot (without the foreground) to avoid distractions.

Try to wear comfortable clothes, look naturally to the camera and wait a few seconds looking at the camera before starting to speak. Once finished, you also have to leave a few seconds to cut the recording. It is also interesting not to have a single recording plane and try to insert images about your jobs or working places.

Repetitions

You can repeat the recording as many times as necessary until you are convinced of the result. If you have to insist, it’s convenient to rest.

Careful editing

In video editing, it is needed clean cuts at the beginning and at the end. And if it’s possible, it should also retouch the sound and the image.

There are many specialized websites to make your self-nomination in the employer business if you are reporting on the appropriate channel.

Keep your attention

Your viewers won’t necessarily make concentrated in your video-CV. You’re fighting a tide of other candidates available for the same workplace.

The total duration is relative: you can explain it in thirty seconds or in a minute. Don’t pursue a specific time but avoid too long. If viewing the result will not stay satisfied by rhythm, repeated it changing. You can retake and go making adjustments of what you had recorded to be closer to what you’re looking for.

Be original

Basically, the question is whether your video enriches who sees it in some way: with information, with an interesting idea or a smile.

Make it easy for the user

It is up to the user to make the decision to visit your page or send an email, but remember: I make it easy. You can include a title at the end or along the video and include relevant links in the description … and remind the viewer that has the ability to access to you (and your service) if he/she is interested.

All people will include their email and their web on their video. But to be more original, you can use YouTube annotations that allow playing connected the video directly linking to other videos (like an interactive game).

Keep updated

As is done with CV, video-CV also must be renewed periodically.
